Progress Towards Offical CM Status for the Epic 4G Touch

After months of waiting and countless leaked builds, literally, Sprint finally decided to push out the official Ice Cream Sandwich OTA for our device. With that official OTA out the bag, Samsung has also since released ICS kernel source. This will allow a couple of things regarding future CM development on our device.

  • Overall, the FF18 source release from Samsung was a complete mess. Team Epic devs have been working on getting the source cleaned up and booting.
  • So you may be asking, "What's currently being worked on since source release?" Well..
    • Team Epic dev mkasick has been working on porting kexec support for the source kernel similar to the Gingerbread based directbootCWM kexec kernel released earlier.
    • Team Epic dev nubecoder has been working on an FF18 temp boot utility similar to the EL29 temp boot released earlier. This will allow for prl and profile updates, recalibrating sensors, device activations, gps locks, etc, while on a CM build for those who need it.
    • Team Epic dev chris41g has also been working on getting the source kernel booting and integrating it into the CM build process. He has also updated the custom recovery from CWM5 to Koush's latest, CWM6. Along with that, the emmc brick bug has been patched making it safe to wipe, flash, backup and restore in.
  • So as you can see, work is done and progress is being made. We hope to have the Epic 4G Touch upgraded to official CM status soon. With that, we will see official CM9 RC releases, official nightlies, and eventually CM10 for our device.

  3. This is easily the most stable build that we've had. I'm currently running the FF18 7-17 nightly by Shabby with the FF11 modem, and have absolutely no issues. Keep it up guys. Can't wait for official CM status.

    1. I was wondering if I can flash to that FF18 7-17 -CM-E4GT-KANG nightly just like I flashed from CM9 alpha 5 to alpha 6 without wiping any cache. Thanks!

  13. I love this rom much better than the stock one I had. Biggest problem is the sound is still scratchy and poppy when using the headphone jack. I know its not my headphones or speakers because I was playing around with other roms and AnaKonda's ICS rom was able to cure the issue. I don't know much about android code so I can't just dive in, but ya'll might be able to see whats up with the sound. To help you recreate the problem it is when I am listening to heavy songs on pandora trough my headphones or speakers. Otherwise keep up the great work ya'll are amazing!!

    2. No we don't, we don't all have Big Screen TVs. We just want AOSP android on our smartphones and appreciate the developers who make it possible.

  17. On the live Install Guide (http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/p/cm9-install-guide.html) it says that you do not need to install CWM5 but then later states to boot into ClockworkMod recovery. Am I missing a step?

    1. Step 1 says to not install CWM.
Step 12 says to use CWM Recovery.

  18. The nightly site listed in the install directions has been down a lot in the last few days. Is there another mirror?

    2. It has stalled. Case in point >> https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ah-Y1vrVIB0/T2E6X7jWYFI/AAAAAAAABAc/msY017cnclM/s853/CM9+Flow.png

The AT&T version has the components as the Sprint version. Only thing different is the modem. It has stable CM7 status while the Sprint version does not. According to the image if the device meets the criteria and has CM7 status it will get CM9, maybe even CM10. To be truthfully honest, if you want CM9 or CM10 don't go to CyanogenMod and expect it to happen. I would advise you to head to XDA or Android Central for the latest builds for eith CM9 or CM10. If you wait for the CyanogenMod team to make a build for the Epic 4G Touch you'll be waiting a very long time or you basically SoL.

  21. Out of curiosity my epic 4g touch has been rooted so long I haven't received any over the air updates. I'm currently on cm9, my phone has always had signal issues,I'm thinking maybe some of those sprint updates I missed fixed my signal problems, I'm wondering if I need to return to stock then root back to cm9? Basically does cm9 include all the hardware updates sprint has put out over the last year or should I return to stock and start over. Thanks in advance for any replies:-)

    1. To fix the signal issues head over to XDA and grab the zip for FH13.
