Coming soon in CM9 alpha3 for Epic Touch

This page will be updated periodically as things are fixed, features are added, etc. Please, check back regularly.

News
It's been a week since alpha2 hit the scene and development has continued full steam ever since. The Epic Touch CM Team has been working diligently to fix bugs, improve functionality, and more. Enough work has been completed since alpha2's release that we can warrant a "coming soon" blog post ;). Even so, more work needs to be done and we're looking to our users to learn what's most important for our next update. More information on how to contact us can be found at the bottom of this post.

Along with bug squashing and additional features, there's still the matter of the kernel. You've probably noticed how much we've progressed so far. While we've been examining and working with the code we have, we still need more help to get it running at peak performance; either that or we'll have to wait for kernel sources from Samsung, (which shouldn't be too far in the future :)

Changelog - Fixed for CM9 alpha3
  • More roaming options. Home, International Roaming, National Roaming, or None.
  • Kernel updated to FD02. including a change to the adb binary to match CyanogenMod's root implementation. "adb shell" will now return a non-root shell unless "adb root" is used first.
  • Faster GPS location triangulation. With help from the latest leaks we've been able to update the proprietary libs to give us more efficient and reliable GPS.
  • Phantom voicemail fixed (for real this time). With alpha2 we forgot to compile our Phone.apk with the flag to get rid of that pesky phantom voicemail. For alpha3, you can be sure to see that fixed.
  • Manual CPU frequency setting. The option that used to be greyed out in performance settings can now be adjusted. There's no overclock or anything of that nature, yet; we need kernel sources for that.
  • Improved battery life. We've been working on tweaks to the framwork's xml files to optimize our builds specially for Epic 4G Touch, and we've been returning results with much better battery life. Darchstar reported that he got around 20 hours of battery life with moderate-to-heavy usage.
Along with all these updates concerning only Epic 4G Touch, there have also been updates in upstream CyanogenMod that you can hope to see in the future, e.g. pinch to zoom in the camera app.

Now we want to direct our focus to our users! We find your input extremely valuable to the development of our ROMs. And so we ask: what bugs do you really want to see fixed as we move into alpha3? Any requests? Feel Free to join us in our IRC Channel to talk about it, or comment on our Google+ or Facebook

  3. You are pretty much covering all of the most important bases here in your post, thank you all so much for all of your hard work; this is already (at least in my opinion) the best ICS-based rom yet!

  4. Have you fixed the error where music will stop playing while using Google Music after you receive a notification sound?

  5. I would love to be able to run at a screen density of 160 without getting FC's in Dialer. Everything else is awesome!

  6. Would like to see the cdma roaming option bug fixed so when or if you reboot you don't have to change it to roam home only to automatic. That may be fixed when you ad the additional roaming options not sure. +1 on the music bug when notification is received music stops. Bottom navigation bar lights on or off option won't stick when screen is shut off.

  8. Vibrate and ring check box unchecks itself after a reboot on alpha 2. Would be nice if this was fixed. Thanks!

  9. The feature I miss most from touchwiz and sense is how when you're on the phone and simultaneously using the phone you can slide down the notification bar to hang up the call. I'm surprised it hasn't been added to CM yet.

  11. Can't wait for the release. Alpha 2 was great and love it but notification / battery was my biggest concern. Even thought the phone was on vibrate I would still get notification sounds. But it seems you guys are covering a lot on the next release... Please give me quickly.

Thanks!!! a bunch and keep up the great work!!!

  13. Would it be possible to fix *#*#debug#*#* and *#*#data #*#*?
It let's me enter my msl but then says modem error.
    *#*#8778#*#* works.

This may be related to system updates.

  14. PREFACE: this is not a request for an ETA...

Given the condition that Alpha 2 is in and given all of the bugs you say are going to be fixed in the next release, should we consider this project at the beta stage?
Basically my question is are you going to jump from alpha to finished product or is there going to be a beta (RC) stage as well?

By the way, thanks for all the work you guys have put into this project!

  15. Really the only major issue I've had is with music. Music players no longer recognize .wma files. Like the codec is just missing or something. Also the volume bug when it doesn't go back up after a notification during media playback is a little irritating. These are the only issues I've really seen. Keep up the good work, guys.

  16. Here is my list:

    1) make UPDATE PRL and UPDATE PROFILE work

    2) add CMW recovery? Although im not sure if it is possible at this stage or if you need the sources for that...

    3) Themes?

  19. One thing i liked about tw wasin the contacts you had the ability to swipe left on the contact to call them or swipe right to text them or sonething like that. Pretty cool feature that i find myself missing. Would be nice to see that in cm9.
    Thanks

  20. Another much wanted suggestion: make the 4G icon in the notification bar thicker. Since the icon is so small and thin, when it is enabled you cant really tell... When you are in daylight, you can barely tell.

  21. What I'd really like to see is a possible setting to sync apps at adjustable intervals like every 15 minutes, half hour, hour, 6 hours etc kinda like what juice defender does. It will dramatically improve battery life especially for those with a lot of installed apps.

  22. I just wanted to say thanks for all of your hard work. I waited to buy this phone until I knew someone was working on a CM9 rom. Thank you for being smarter than me!

  23. I would like the storage to sd card situation fixed. So when i try to play certain games or certain apps can draw the information from the proper location

  24. Yeah I forgot...the sd-card ! Definitely that !

  26. plzzzz in alpha 3 include the ability to turn on or off capacitive buttons lights, and if possible include the soft buttons .

  27. +1 on soft buttons and some lockscreen options. Keep up the great work guys!

  28. is it possible to make it as smooth as touch-wiz, i don't like touch-wiz i just like how super smooth it is, even with live wallpapers, i think being as smooth as touch-wiz launcher is the best way to go. Keep up the good work , cant wait to try out alpha3

  29. Would like to see a switch for lights to stay on in alpha 3, i miss my lights
